Scott Thompson wins Monday Night Songwriter's Open Mic at Eddie's Attic
August 8 , 2011 - Decatur, Ga. - Seems as if second time's the charm for Scott Thompson at Eddi'es Attic. After his debut performance there in May, Thompson was chosen as a top 3 finalist from a group of twenty aspiring songwriters. For his second try this past Monday, he thrilled the crowd as the last performer of the night and after playing his song "Carry Me" for the finals, was chosen as the winner.
"You could have pushed me over with a feather," said Thompson. "It's such a thrill just to play at a storied venue like Eddie's Attic. But to be chosen as the winner from amongst a group of such talented singer/songerwriters is truly an honor."
Every Monday night, Eddie's Attic hosts an open mic night as a forum for aspiring performing songwriters of all levels of ability. The evenings are hosted by Attic founder, Eddie Owen. Consisting of both local and national acts, performers have ten minutes each to perform two original songs, and a panel of judges chooses three finalists. These three are invited back to the stage at the end of the night to perform one more song, and the judges select one winner. Performers are judged in five different areas: songwriting, vocal performance, playing ability, stage presence, and audience response.
Thompson has now earned a spot in the bi-annual Shootout to be held the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The Shootout participants have a chance to perform in front of a packed house full of music industry professional and music fans. The prize is a $1,000 and a myriad of other opportunities.
